what we do
Insight Mindfulness Education is a registered not-for-profit organisation dedicated to raising the awareness of positive mental health and supporting the lives of teens across the country. At the heart of our work lie two ancient awareness and concentration practices - mindfulness and meditation. Central to these two practices is paying attention to present moment experiences with openness, curiosity, and a willingness to be with what is.
Through week-long mindfulness and meditation retreats we provide teens with a space that allow them to learn concentration and awareness practices that have been proven to support one's wellbeing. While supporting young people through residential retreats is our primary concern, we are committed to expanding the use of mindfulness practices in educational settings across the country. Not only do we believe that doing so helps to support the wellbeing of young people, leading to improved learning outcomes, research suggests this is accurate.
Inspired by the Inward-Bound Mindfulness Education teen retreat model and Sam Himelstein’s work with high-risk adolescents, I'ME's programs provide unique environments for young people to explore their identity and their thoughts and feelings. This all takes place whilst learning the importance of developing awareness and compassion for themselves and others.
We provide an opportunity for young people to explore their belief systems, their values and identify the kind of person they would like to be in this world. The space we create does not intend to change individuals, rather it allows them to investigate themselves. Programs are designed to provide teens with a sense of autonomy and agency – an imperative in the life of happy and flourishing teens.
I'ME facilitates this space of growth and learning through the practice of mindfulness, meditation, compassion, love, wisdom, friendship, and an acceptance of self and the present moment.
Finally, we see this as a unique opportunity to provide an antidote to the stresses faced by teens in the modern world.
